Luton Town 6-0 Kidderminster Harriers

Luton Town midfielder Luke Guttridge

Luton Town went top of the Conference Premier for the first time under John Still as they hammered Kidderminster Harriers at Kenilworth Road.

Luke Guttridge's close-range effort earned the Hatters a half-time lead.

Paul Benson added another before Jake Howells netted in the 56th-minute penalty incident, which saw visiting defender Chey Dunkley sent off.

Howells and Guttridge then both added a second goal either side of Scott Griffiths' header, to make it six.

The Hatters' sixth straight league win added up to the heaviest defeat suffered by Harriers boss Steve Burr in his four years in charge - and the club's worst in 30 years at Conference level or above.

Opposite number Still, however, missed his side's six-goal romp as he was at home nursing illness.

Even without him in the dug-out, Luton's biggest win in three seasons took them a point clear at the top after long-time leaders Cambridge United were held to a goalless draw at Nuneaton.

Meanwhile, Harriers striker Nathan Blissett has gone on a month's loan to Conference North leaders Hednesford Town, and non-contract defender Aaron Brown has left the club.

VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Luton coach Hakan Hayrettin told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"If there is ever going to be a complete performance, you would probably say that would be it.

"I know they went down to 10 men, but we were outstanding. We did everything required to win a game of football.

"We had the professionalism and the desire to keep going for 90 minutes and that performance was dedicated to Jonathan Smith (who suffered a double leg break in the Hatters' Boxing Day win at Barnet).

"We take every game on its merits. We are oozing confidence. We have got to keep it going."

Harriers manager Steve Burr told BBC Hereford & Worcester:

"I'm very angry. To come here and collapse the way we did was very disappointing.

"It's hard enough coming to Luton anyway, but even more so when you go down to 10 men.

"It looked like a penalty. We weren't quick enough to react and he took him down.

"All you can do is try to bounce back and we now have to get ourselves together to face Hereford again on New Year's Day."
