Blackburn Rovers 0-0 Sheffield Wednesday
Blackburn failed to secure a third consecutive Championship win as they were held to a goalless draw by strugglers Sheffield Wednesday.
Both sides had chances to secure three points, with Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede going closest for the play-off chasing hosts at Ewood Park.
Atdhe Nuhiu provided the main threat for the Owls, forcing two spectacular saves from Simon Eastwood.
Despite their efforts, the result kept Wednesday in the relegation places.
It was the visitors who made the brightest start, and Nuhiu's glancing header produced a fine stop from Eastwood.
Rovers responded through Rhodes, who was denied by Chris Kirkland after latching onto an inexplicably poor header from defender Roger Johnson.
The finest chance of the game came two minutes before the break as Eastwood produced a superb fingertip save from Nuhiu's header.
Rovers have lost just once in their last nine matches at Ewood, and pushed for a winner in the second half. Gestede shot weakly after sprinting past Glenn Loovens and Josh King fired straight at Kirkland, who gathered at the second attempt..
A frantic finish followed, but neither side could force a winner. The result was met by booing from the Rovers support, frustrated at the dropped points.
Blackburn Rovers manager Gary Bowyer:
"There's a chorus of boos around the ground which I don't quite understand because we have to remember where we've come from, where we are now, and how much further we can go.
"I think points are very difficult to come by in the Championship and we have to respect the point today. We created some good chances but weren't ruthless enough in front of goal.
"There have been several times this season when people have said to me, 'last season we wouldn't have got the draw', so the progress we're making is decent."
Sheffield Wednesday caretaker manager Stuart Gray:
"I thought we had the better of the first half and had the better chances. Atdhe [Nuhiu] is unlucky not to score, with a couple of good saves by their goalkeeper.
"It's nice to get a clean sheet. We've had back-to-back clean sheets away and you can't undervalue the point.
"I thought the two centre halves kept Jordan Rhodes very quiet. When you come to Blackburn, 95% of their goals probably come through Jordan, so credit to the defenders."
