Bristol Rovers 2-0 Portsmouth

Ollie Clarke's first senior goal helped Bristol Rovers beat Portsmouth.

The 21-year-old midfielder fired in a half-volley from the edge of the penalty area to give Rovers a half-time lead at the Memorial Stadium.

David Clarkson sealed the win with an angled shot, having hit the crossbar early in the first period.

Pompey, who have now gone nine games without a victory in all competitions, are yet to win a match under recently-appointed manager Richie Barker.

"The attitude of the team - we've talked about it over the last ten/eleven games - has been absolutely spot on.

"You saw it on Wednesday when the attitude of the team was terrific, and we asked for that again today. We've had to come through some awkward spells.

"I think Portsmouth started very well and we had to stand up to that.

"The first goal was at a really good time for us because it settled things down. The second half I thought we were quite commanding on the front foot and very positive."

Portsmouth manager Richie Barker speaks to BBC Radio Solent:

"I'd have to say for 20 minutes, half an hour in the first half I thought we were the best team. We had a couple of really good chances, but it isn't anywhere near good enough.

"Some of those players in there have got to recognise how fortunate they are to be playing for Portsmouth and too many players are going through the motions for me and not doing the right things.

"There's no point hiding - they've got 10 days to save their Portsmouth careers because they are where they are because they don't do the right things. There's a lot of problems and it needs sorting out very quickly."

On Rovers goals: "They're both good finishes but we can't keep saying they're good finishes. They're good finishes because people worked hard to go and get on the end of things and they worked hard and they ran and they chased and they picked up second balls.

"We're going to have to put a stop to this very quickly and change peoples' mentalities because all I hear about is moaning and that isn't happening anymore."
