Sheffield United 1-0 Swindon Town

Sheffield United boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation with a vital win against Swindon at Bramall Lane.

Jose Baxter got the all-important goal - his second in a week - nodding home Ryan Flynn's flick-on midway through the second half.

Baxter was earlier denied by Wes Foderingham in the Robins' goal, while Chris Porter's shot hit a post.

For Swindon, Nicky Ajose drew a smart save from George Long before he teed up Ryan Mason who was also denied by Long.

The victory takes Sheffield United two points clear of the bottom four and stretched their unbeaten record to four matches.

Post match: Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough

Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"Our performance was good in parts. We just wanted the lads to be a little positive.

"I thought we started the game well, lost our way at the end of the first half but came out in the second half very positive and deserved the win.

"It was a very good goal. It might have looked scrappy but it was a great header to get it back across the goalkeeper from where he was.

"We should've done more to go and get the second goal."

Swindon Town manager Mark Cooper told BBC Wiltshire:

Post-match: Swindon boss Mark Cooper

"We spoke at half-time about making sure we started the second-half well and we didn't for some reason.

"Our better players kept giving the ball away and we gave a little bit of momentum to Sheffield United.

"I felt we didn't look as though we were ever going to concede a goal, but we didn't look as though we were going to score a goal.

"We're trying to find a balance away from home between attacking and making sure we stay in games."
