St Mirren: Danny Lennon full of praise for Kenny McLean

St Mirren manager Danny Lennon believes midfielder Kenny McLean has everything as a footballer.

The 21-year-old scored twice in the Paisley side's thrilling 4-3 win over St Johnstone at St Mirren Park.

"For me, Kenny McLean is the complete player - the complete package," Lennon told BBC Radio Scotland.

"Even in terms of his running style, how pleasing he is on the eye. He's got a bright future, but what he has to do is keep that consistency."

McLean's form has coincided with the Buddies taking seven points from their last three Scottish Premiership matches.

Interview - St Mirren manager Danny Lennon

"It's the third game in a row Kenny's played to the standard we know he has," said Lennon. "But what he's added today is a couple of goals."

St Mirren went in front four times in this game and were pegged back three times by St Johnstone but hung on to get their first home win this season.

McLean opened the scoring before the opposition's Steven MacLean equalised.

It was an all-action second half, Paul McGowan slotting St Mirren ahead again only for Nigel Hasselbaink to level.

The Buddies' captain, Jim Goodwin, missed a penalty and, when they were awarded another, McLean was successful.

However, Rory Fallon clawed the Perth side back again before Steven Thompson had the final say.

"It was thoroughly entertaining and I would've paid the £20 myself to come and watch that," Lennon added.

"We know we've got a reputation of being a good footballing side and that philosophy will never change.

"But what we are seeing from the group of players just now is the other side - that they can roll the sleeves up. It's a terrific balance.

"There's something dropped in that dressing-room and I must give the players a great deal of credit. The unity and the team spirit that they have in there is absolutely terrific.

"Everybody taking care of their own little department and winning their battles all over the park, united together, becomes a very good team performance."
