Hibernian: Kevin Thomson red card upheld by Scottish FA

Hibernian have lost their appeal against the red card shown to Kevin Thomson during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Dundee United.

The midfielder reacted angrily to a tackle from Gavin Gunning during the match at Easter Road, with both men sent off after a scuffle.

The Scottish FA's disciplinary panel has upheld the dismissal and applied an immediate two-match suspension.

United decided against challenging Gunning's red card.

Thomson appeared to be caught by Gunning's follow-through as they challenged for a bouncing ball on the edge of the United penalty box.

Both men went head-to-head as a scrum of team-mates raced in to pull them apart.

And a Hibernian spokesman said the club were "extremely disappointed" with the unsuccessful appeal.
