Bradford 4-0 Carlisle

Nahki Wells

Nahki Wells-inspired Bradford scored three goals in nine first-half minutes on their way to thrashing Carlisle.‪

Mark Yeates opened the scoring when he cut in from the left and fired into the top corner for his first Bantams goal.

By the 29th minute it was 3-0, Wells seized on a weak defensive header from Paul Thirwell to score for the third successive game before strike partner James Hanson stroked in from 18 yards.

Gary Jones made it a rout after the break, tapping home a Wells cross.

After Wells was twice denied by Carlisle goalkeeper Mark Gillespie, Yeates unleashed a vicious strike from just outside the box for his first goal since joining the Bantams in the summer.

Wells then squeezed home from a tight angle after intercepting a Thirwell header meant for Gillespie. Hanson made the game safe when centre-back Danny Livesey slipped, allowing the striker to run clear and finish.

Having squandered several more chances, Wells turned provider, breaking clear down the right before giving Jones an easy finish.

Post-match: Carlisle boss Abbott

"Man for man they were tougher, more experienced, had more nous about the game and in the end made us look a really ragged side.

"Too many of our senior players, Berrett and Noble, they've let themselves down today. We've all let the club down today because it isn't good enough from top to bottom. There was a lot of words said at half-time that had never been used before, in terms of fingers pointed at individuals.

"It's going to be the toughest season I've had by miles because of the thinness of the squad but we need no injuries and we need senior players playing."
