Jersey Premiership: Scottish edge closer to retaining title

Football

Jersey Scottish are on the verge of retaining the island's Premiership title after a 2-1 win at relegation-threatened Rozel Rovers.

Calum Brennan's header and a Danny Huelin own goal helped the Scots to the win, with Luke Heynes netting for Rozel.

It leaves Scottish needing two points from their last two matches to guarantee they top the table.

Meanwhile second-placed St Paul's thrashed Grouville 9-3 at Le Boulivot.

Craig Russell netted four times, while Jack Cannon, Matt Fowler, Paul McGinness, Bruno da Silva and Bradley Gollop were also on the score sheet for St Paul's, who remain eight points off top spot with a game in hand.

In Saturday's other Premiership matches, St Brelade and St Ouen battled out a 1-1 draw and Jersey Wanderers were 2-1 winners over St Peter.

In the Championship, St Clement secured second place and promotion to the island's top flight with a 4-2 win against First Tower United at La Hague Manor.

Bottom club St Martin were thumped 8-2 by St John, with Arthur Illingworth and Scott Laverty each grabbing hat-tricks.
