Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis wants more from Byron Moore

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis believes that forward Byron Moore is yet to achieve his full potential.

Moore, who scored in last year's play-off final defeat of Cheltenham, has struggled for form this season, but did net in his most recent eague game.

"He works very hard in training but there's just something missing with him," Davis told BBC Radio Stoke.

"The last few weeks he's got going, scored some goals and created chances - we need to unlock the talent he's got."

Davis added: "It's not just us, that drive and determination has got to come from him to succeed more that he fails."

Moore was set a target by Davis of reaching 10 goals for this campaign, but the 24-year-old may fail to achieve this having only scored three at the half-way stage of the season.

But Davis believes that if Moore can begin to flourish, he could be held in the same esteem as Ashley Westwood and Nick Powell, who made moves from the Alex to Premier League sides in the summer.

"We should be talking about him like how we talk about Luke Murphy, and Westwood and Powell when they were here," Davis said.

"He's equally as talented as some of those, but he hasn't produced it every week. If he can, and there's no reason why he can't, he will go on and be an exceptional player."
