Loanee Matt Godden aims for Ebbsfleet United impact

Scunthorpe striker Matt Godden says his desire to play first-team football was a key to his move to Ebbsfleet.

The 21-year-old striker made his debut from the bench and scored the winner in the 3-2 victory over Hyde on Saturday.

He told BBC Radio Kent: "I needed games as I've not featured for Scunthorpe this season. The new manager [Brian Laws] gave me permission to go on loan.

"I wanted to come down here and put a smile back on my face. The boys have made me feel welcomed very quickly."

Godden, who has family in Sittingbourne, was born in Canterbury but joined the Iron's academy at the age of 15.

"I had a few chats [with Ebbsfleet] over the course of the season as things weren't working out at Scunthorpe under the old manager," Godden continued.

"It's 20 minutes down the road from home and it just fitted.

"If I do really well here a door might open under the new manager at Scunthorpe, or I'd happily extend the loan down here if I am enjoying my football."

Ebbsfleet manager Liam Daish added: "We brought Matt in because he is a natural finisher."
