Wayne Rooney 'excited' to become England captain

England international Wayne Rooney says it will be "an honour" to captain England in their World Cup qualifier against San Marino on Friday.

Both Steven Gerrard (suspension) and Frank Lampard (knee injury) are unavailable, leaving Rooney to take charge of the squad for the first time since 2009.

Manchester United striker Rooney, 26, has 76 caps and last led the team out in a friendly against Brazil in Quatar.
