Rangers 5-1 Elgin City
David Templeton marked his Rangers debut with a brace as the Ibrox side came from behind to beat Elgin City.
Jamie Duff stunned the home crowd with a stylish opener for the visitors.
Dean Shiels levelled with a shot on the turn, Templeton edged Rangers in front and newly-appointed captain Lee McCulloch struck the hosts' third.
Templeton's volley early in the second half stretched Rangers' lead and McCulloch's neat finish completed the rout on 59 minutes.
Ally McCoist's side move up to third in the Scottish Third Division as Elgin slip to fifth.
Though still unbeaten this season, Rangers' league form had not matched their 100% record in the Ramsdens and Scottish Communities League Cup and McCoist was critical of the side following last Sunday's draw at Berwick.
And there was more concern for the Ibrox fans when Elgin opened the scoring on 15 minutes.
Duff played a one-two with Craig Gunn on the left-hand side of the box before curling a shot past Neil Alexander.
The loss of the goal seemed to shake Rangers out of their lethargy and McCulloch threatened with a header.
Further pressure stretched the Elgin defence and McCulloch's shot ricocheted off a defender into Shiels' path and the former Kilmarnock forward lashed the ball past John Gibson.
Elgin may have been given the chance to go ahead again though, as Rangers full-back Lee Wallace appeared to use an arm in the penalty area but no spot-kick was awarded.
Rangers then moved ahead with Templeton receiving Ian Black's pass, cutting inside David Niven and sweeping a shot past Gibson.
The winger, who scored against Liverpool in his final Hearts appearance on Thursday, was also involved in Rangers' third. His deflected shot was parried by Gibson only as far as McCulloch and the forward tucked away.
Black had a shot saved early in the second half and Rangers were soon further ahead as Shiels' corner found Templeton in the six-yard box and the 23-year-old spun deftly to volley into the net.
McCulloch had taken over the armband following Carlos Bocanegra's departure to Racing Santander on loan and the skipper notched his second of the day when he slotted home Andy Little's low centre.
Both Templeton and McCulloch had chances to complete their hat-tricks but Elgin avoided the loss of further goals.
