Ron Vlaar completes move to Aston Villa from Feyenoord

New Aston Villa signing Ron Vlaar

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Dutch international defender Ron Vlaar from Feyenoord.

The 27-year-old, who started two games during a poor Euro 2012 campaign for the Dutch, agreed personal terms on a three-year deal last week.

"I am looking to follow in the footsteps of Paul McGrath, Olof Mellberg and Martin Laursen - all them were great players," he said.

American goalkeeper Brad Guzan, 27, has also re-signed on a three-year deal.

The arrival of centre-back Vlaar, who has nine caps, will boost a Villa defence which has seen the departures of Carlos Cuellar and James Collins..

Vlaar's Feyenoord team-mate Karim El Ahmadi and Sheffield United's Matt Lowton have already already been signed by manager Paul Lambert since his arrival at Villa Park from Norwich City in June.
