Coventry 0-1 Hull City

Hull's revival under caretaker manager Nick Barmby continued with victory over bottom-of-the-table Coventry.

Corry Evans scored the only goal of the game on the hour mark, volleying home Andy Dawson's cross.

The home side, who have now gone 10 games without a win, created few chances but Richard Wood's header did hit the post in the first half.

The Tigers were full value for the points, which moves them up to fifth in the Championship table.

Neither side created many chances in a scrappy opening to the game, although Cameron Stewart forced City keeper Joe Murphy into a good save.

Andy Thorn's men struggled throughout but went close when Conor Thomas sent in a cross that Wood headed on to the post.

Hull took advantage of their reprieve in the second half, with Stewart flashing a shot wide from 20 yards before his side went into the lead.

Dawson sent over a looping cross and Evans was on hand to convert his first goal of the season.

Both sides had half-chances in the final half-hour but Hull had done enough to continue their ascent up the table.

Coventry boss Andy Thorn: "I thought we looked really edgy in the first half. We had some good opportunities to take the lead, a great chance when we have hit the post but when things don't go for you they won't go for you.

"The defining moment is when they loft the ball into our box, we don't deal with it and the ball ends up in the back of our net.

"That's hard to take considering we kept going and gave everything and created opportunities but when your luck is not in it's not there and it just wouldn't fall for us."

Hull caretaker manager Nick Barmby: "It's been a really good week for us. I'm really proud of the players and their work ethic today.

Barmby praises 'ugly' win

"To come to a place like this and keep a clean sheet against a side that score in most of their home games and nick one at the other end, I am really pleased.

"We got the result we wanted today and we have had a great week but we remain humble. Our feet are on the ground and we go again next week."
