Evergreen Notts County striker Lee Hughes says he is enjoying his football as much as ever and was always certain he would sign a new contract.

The 35-year-old has signed a deal until the end of next season - with an option for a further year.

"I don't feel like I'm 35. I feel 21," he told BBC Radio Nottingham. "The fans have taken me in and I love it here.

"We spoke for an hour over a cup of tea [about the contract] and that was it - sorted. There was no doubt in my mind."

I still feel 21 years old - Hughes

Hughes has scored six goals in 12 games so far this term, helping Notts to reach eighth place in League One.

He added: "I'm still running around, I'm naturally fit and - touch wood - I've had no injuries this year.

"I don't feel any aches and pains so why not? I'm enjoying it, I'm scoring goals and the fans are enjoying me playing - I can tell.

"And I am playing with a smile on my face."
