McClaren delays joining Nottingham Forest's training camp

McClaren has said he expects to challenge for promotion this season

Nottingham Forest boss Steve McClaren will delay joining the pre-season training camp in Portugal because he is so worried by the lack of signings.

Forest are due to fly out on Wednesday but the former England manager will not travel until later in the week.

McClaren has so far only signed Andy Reid and this week he told BBC Radio Nottingham he needs more new faces.

"My most important job at the moment is to make sure we assemble a squad that can compete for promotion," he said.

Forest have made an approach for Newcastle's Wayne Routledge and Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard is also reported to be a target.

But Routledge is now also being chased by Premier League newcomers Swansea City.

McClaren wanted to leave with the squad on Wednesday but fears that unless he manages to bring in several new faces Forest will struggle to cope with the rigours of a Championship promotion push.
