De Vos shocks West at Lakeside

Dean Winstanley got off to a winning start at the BDO World Championships at Frimley Green with a victory over Joey ten Berge.

Last year's beaten finalist saw off the challenge of the Dutchman 3-1 to progress to the second round.

Belgian Geert De Vos pulled off one of the shocks of the round as he knocked out 11th seed Tony West.

He started the match with a 15-dart leg before going on to win 3-1, clinching the match with a double 10.

Alan Norris also progressed as he beat 14th seed Benito van de Pas 3-2.

The 18-year-old Dutchman twice fought back from a set down to force the decider but Norris won the match with a 74 check-out.

In the women's event Anastasia Dobromyslova beat Julie Gore 2-0 to secure her place in the semi-final.
