|Gloucestershire 3pts; Derbyshire 2pts|
Will Tavare hit a century and formed a huge partnership with Will Gidman as Gloucestershire made Derbyshire's bowlers toil on day one at Cheltenham.
Opener Tavare (135) and Gidman (88) shared an impressive stand of 175 as the hosts ended the day on 304-6.
Earlier in the day, Hamish Marshall (45) was dismissed by Tony Palladino as the visitors struggled to find wickets.
But Tom Taylor took 3-43, including Tavare, during a tough day for Derbyshire's bowlers.
Tavare's total of 135 meant he was just four runs from matching his highest score in first-class cricket.
On his debut County Championship match earlier this season, Tavare managed a total of 139 against Hampshire.
Gloucestershire batsman Will Tavare:
"It was really hard batting conditions early on. It was quite a slow wicket with a bit of movement in it for the bowlers, so to get through that phase and to bat most of the day was very pleasing.
"We had our little goals, which we worked through, and it was a very good day for us on a tough wicket. They bowled well throughout the day, especially Tom Taylor, so the partnership between me and Will (Gidman) was pretty crucial."
