Surrey v Leicestershire: Jason Roy knock helps hosts fight back
LV= County Championship Division Two, The Kia Oval
Close, day one: Surrey 325-7 v Leicestershire
Surrey 3 pts, Leicestershire 2 pts
Jason Roy hit a useful 76 as Surrey recovered from 243-7 to close on 325-7 against struggling Leicestershire.
Hashim Amla (71) and Vikram Solanki (54) failed to capitalise on decent form while Rob Taylor was the pick of the Leicestershire bowlers on day one.
Taylor's bustling left-arm seam saw him end the day with figures of 3-52.
However, an eighth-wicket partnership of 82 between Gary Wilson and Chris Tremlett, who both finished on 44, put Surrey in a decent position on day one.
"It is a big frustration that three of us got past 50 today but didn't kick on to 100," said Roy.
"But the stand at the end of the day has got us up to a decent total. If we can kick on a bit more tomorrow and then bowl well, we should still have a good chance to put them under pressure. I'm feeling good at the crease at the moment."
BBC London 94.9's Mark Church:
"Surrey were in danger of not making use of winning the toss and batting first, but an unbroken eighth-wicket stand of 82 between Gary Wilson and Chris Tremlett put a much better complexion on the day.
"Rob Taylor was the pick of the Leicestershire bowlers as the visitors reduced Surrey to 243-7 after tea. Hashim Amla (71), Jason Roy (76) and Vikram Solanki (54) all looked in wonderful form but were guilty of not making the most of their excellent starts.
"Wilson and Tremlett played very well late in the day with both of them finishing unbeaten on 44 and honours just about even on the opening day with Surrey closing on 325-7."
