Ashes 2013: James Anderson calls for the new bowlers to be given time

England bowler James Anderson says that two debutant bowlers needed to be given more time, despite Australia setting a substantial score in the first day of the final Test at the Oval.

England surprisingly picked Chris Woakes and Simon Kerrigan.

Australia reached 307-4 by the close of play, but Anderson insisted that it was impossible to say after just one day whether the line-up had worked or not.

When asked whether Australian coach Darren Lehmann's branding of Stuart Broad as a 'cheat' had given England extra motivation, Anderson dismissed the idea and said they "didn't need any extra motivation".
