Patel full of confidence for t20 tie

Director of cricket Mick Newell says Nottinghamshire must improve their bowling when they host Essex in the FLt20 quarter-final on Thursday.

Notts topped their group with seven wins from 10 games, with their batting line-up particularly impressive.

Newell told BBC Radio Nottingham: "We have got a very good batting team - as good a team as in the competition.

"And if we get our bowling right for the whole 20 overs, then I don't see any reason that we can't win."

Notts, who have never lifted the domestic Twenty20 cup, won their opening four matches in the shortest form of the game this season, but then lost three of the next four.

But they rediscovered their form in their last two matches and Newell is confident his side can make this season's showpiece event at Edgbaston on 17 August,

Newell said: "We dominated the games and lost in the last five overs of our bowling. That will be one of the messages that we will be hitting across to the players.

"We have got to be on our game for the whole 20 overs of both innings, and if we do that, then that we have the talent in the team to get into us into the finals."
