Durham have handed new deals to batsman Mark Stoneman and pace bowler Mark Wood until 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Stoneman, 25, has racked up 4,455 runs in 101 games in first-class, one-day and Twenty20 cricket for the Chester-le-Street club since his 2007 debut.

He has also recently deputised as one-day captain in the absence of South African veteran Dale Benkenstein.

Meanwhile, Wood, 23, has 14 wickets for the county in 2013, to add to four picked up on his debut last season.

"Whilst it has been widely written that this is a transitional period for the club, recent performances have shown strong prospects for the coming years and I am very much looking forward to being part of this," Stoneman said.

Ashington-born Wood added: "We have a fantastic squad and it is great to be part of that.

"I am really looking forward to helping Durham challenge for some silverware over the next few years."
