YB40: Derbyshire beat Scots by six wickets in Edinburgh
|YB40, The Grange:|
|Derbyshire 186-4 (37.4 overs) beat Scotland 182-9 (40 overs) by six wickets|
Scotland lost by six wickets as half centuries by Chesney Hughes and Shivnarine Chanderpaul helped Derbyshire to victory in Edinburgh.
Mark Footitt took five for 28 as the hosts made 182-9 after they had opted to bat.
Hughes posted 74 runs, Chanderpaul added 54 and the visitors rarely looked in danger of falling short.
Richard Johnson's four eventually secured the win as Derbyshire reached their target with 14 balls to spare.
The Scots started slowly and their fourth wicket fell when they had only hit 51.
Matthew Cross was caught behind for 11 and Freddie Coleman was the first to fall to Footit for one less than his fellow opener after being caught by Wayne Madsen.
Ewan Chalmers and Richie Berrington also struggled with totals of seven and 16 but a partnership of 55 between Preston Mommsen (42) and Majid Haq (16) began to give Scotland a fighting chance only for the former to be caught out by Madsen.
Michael Leask hit two sixes in consecutive overs on his way to 21 off 19 balls but he was stopped in his tracks by Alex Hughes (2-21).
Footit's three late wickets gave the visitors a modest target and an opening stand of 120 from Hughes and Chanderpaul set Derbyshire well on their way before the duo fell to the bowling of Mommsen and Gordon Drummond, respectively.
Scotland sensed a fightback when Madsen was clean bowled by Majid Haq for four but Paul Borrington and Billy Godleman both hit 21 to get Derbyshire back on track before Johnson swept them to victory.
