Leicestershire rescued by centurion Andrew McDonald
LV County Championship Division Two, Northampton
Close, day one: Leicestershire 313, Northants 32-0
Leics 3pts, Northants 3pts
Andrew McDonald smashed 164 as Leicestershire were bowled out for 313 on day one of their game with Division Two leaders Northants.
McDonald came to the crease with his side 15-3 after Jack Brooks' (5-80) early burst, and hit two sixes and 26 fours in his 140-ball stay.
Matthew Boyce (26), Wayne White (47) and Jigar Naik (27) kept McDonald company to help rebuild the innings.
Northants survived 12 overs to reach the close on 32-0.
Brooks wreaked all the early havoc, trapping Will Jefferson leg before, enticing Paul Nixon to chop on to leg stump and having James Taylor caught behind.
He also had Boyce caught at first slip before lunch, before McDonald took centre stage, reaching his century off 98 balls with a four behind square leg off Hall.
His innings came to an end when he edged the first ball after tea from David Lucas to wicketkeeper David Murphy, and Brooks wrapped things up when he had Claude Henderson caught at mid-on to complete the first five-wicket haul of his first-class career.
