Badminton World Championships: Adcocks lose in mixed doubles

England's Chris and Gabby Adcock have been knocked out of the World Badminton Championships mixed doubles in the last 16.

The Commonwealth champions saved six match points in Copenhagen, Denmark and had a game point, but lost 21-16 26-24 to China's Cheng Liu and Yixin Bao.

Gabby said: "We played terribly but almost managed to take that second set. We can't afford to play that poorly."

The fourth seeds were the last British players left in the championships.

Chris Adcock and Andy Ellis suffered a second-round exit in the men's doubles on Wednesday. The 14th seeds went down 18-21 21-17 21-15 in 58 minutes against Japanese pair Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda.

England's Commonwealth Games bronze medallists Chris Langridge and Peter Mills lost 21-14 21-11 to number eight seeds Liu Xiaolong and Qiu Zihan.

And Rajiv Ouseph could not reproduce the form which took him past 16th seed Chong Wei Feng when he went out 21-18 21-13 against Kidambi Srikanth of India in 35 minutes.
