Sochi 2014: Great Britain's women make Olympic curling semis

Great Britain's women curlers came through their group to reach the Winter Olympic semi-finals in Sochi.

The GB women beat Russia 9-6 but lost 8-7 to Denmark, and they will play Canada in the last four on Wednesday.

"Our first goal was to finish top four and that's exactly what we've done," skip Eve Muirhead told BBC Sport.

Muirhead led the women's team to a 9-6 win over Russia in the early game on Monday before a combination of other results meant they were through.

You can't complain about the semi-finals of the Olympics

They were unable to end the round-robin stage on a positive note, however, letting a 7-4 lead slip going into the final end and allowing the Danes to level at 7-7, before Lene Nielsen won the decisive extra end.

"We came out here to make the top four and we're super happy," said Muirhead. "We didn't finish the game the way we would have liked but we'll move on.

"We played well but had a slack couple of last ends but we'd rather it happen in that match than on Wednesday. After our first couple of games I would have taken a semi-final slot, you can't complain about the semi-finals of the Olympics."

Great Britain will now face unbeaten Canada on Wednesday, while Switzerland will take on Sweden in the other semi-final.
