Anne Haug beats GB's Stanford & Stimpson in Hamburg triathlon

Wales' Non Stanford was beaten into second place by Germany's Anne Haug at the World Triathlon Series in Hamburg.

Haug kicked for home with 800m remaining, leaving Stanford to outsprint fellow Briton Jodie Stimpson, who finished third.

Stanford said: "I'm delighted. When Annie went she was amazing.

"I really tried to go with her but didn't have the legs. I was happy to hang on for second."

Haug leads the series with two events remaining - the Stokholm race in August and the mid-September climax in London at which the series could be decided.

Stimpson was pleased for training partner of Haug following their Hamburg efforts.

"We're from different countries, but were team-mates at the end of the day, and it's great to be out there racing with her," said Stanford.

The British pair had won the previous two rounds of the World Series, with Stimpson victorious last time out in Kitzbuhel after Stanford won in Madrid.

Jonny Brownlee outsprinted twin brother Alistair to win the men's race in Hamburg.
