Tomic with a sweet pick-up for the advantage but he follows up with his second double of the match. Federer hunts down a knifed drop-shot and Tomic's volley into the net is wooden as you like. Fine scrambling by Tomic and Federer eventually pushes a forehand wide. But Tomic loses the next two points, Federer sealing the break with an off-forehand winner...

Gilles Simon took the first set against Gael Monfils and is a break and 2-0 up in the second. Another regulation hold for Federer - Tomic trying his best to stir things up a bit, the four-time champion remains serene.

Federer all over that Tomic second serve like a donkey on a waffle but Tomic retaliates with some heavy artillery on first serve and wraps up the hold with a poked backhand down the line.

Federer with a straight-forward hold, if Tomic recovers from this, well, he's some kind of super-human...

Federer makes it 4-3 and snatches the mini-break back as Tomic eventually goes wide with a backhand on the 28th shot. Federer grazes the baseline with a forehand winner and just like that the Swiss has tipped the tie-breaker on its head... Federer wins it 7-5...

What a shot again from Federer, a stop-volley that seals the hold. Takes some hand-eye co-ordination to do that to an attempted Tomic pass, like trying to catch a lightning bolt.

Tomic holds, Federer, like a striker low on confidence, creating the chances but not able to put them away.
