GAME, SET AND MATCH- Federer 6-4 7-6 6-1 Tomic
Federer serving for the match and it's 30-0 after a text-book backhand volley. Tomic unable to deal with Federer's quickest serve so far, 207kph down the T, and that's the match, Tomic putting a backhand return into the net. It's another master-class from Federer, smooth as silk and sweet like chocolate.

*Federer 6-4 7-6 5-1 Tomic
Tomic with his eighth ace but Federer pulls it back to deuce, Tomic finding the net with an attempted forehand pass down the line. Tomic with a sweet pick-up for the advantage but he follows up with his second double of the match. Federer hunts down a knifed drop-shot and Tomic's volley into the net is wooden as you like. Fine scrambling by Tomic and Federer eventually pushes a forehand wide. But Tomic loses the next two points, Federer sealing the break with an off-forehand winner...
-
Federer 6-4 7-6 4-1 Tomic*
Gilles Simon took the first set against Gael Monfils and is a break and 2-0 up in the second. Another regulation hold for Federer - Tomic trying his best to stir things up a bit, the four-time champion remains serene.
-
*Federer 6-4 7-6 3-1 Tomic
Federer all over that Tomic second serve like a donkey on a waffle but Tomic retaliates with some heavy artillery on first serve and wraps up the hold with a poked backhand down the line.
-
Federer 6-4 7-6 3-0 Tomic*
Federer with a straight-forward hold, if Tomic recovers from this, well, he's some kind of super-human...
-
Eddie Wong on Twitter: "Credit for Tomic for playing several clutch points well in the 2nd set. Federer's genius however prevails in the end."
-
Ayra Tabrizi on Twitter: "Federer playing clutch tennis and going up the gears- must be driving Tomic mad!"
-
Webs on Twitter: "Federer is the epitome of professional. I feel that Tomic is only doing so well due to the home advantage."
-
*Federer 6-4 7-6 2-0 Tomic
Tomic misses with a threadled backhand down the line, 0-30. Tomic leaves Federer rooted with a backhand winner but Federer chisels out yet another break point, winning that point with a flashed forehand winner. Federer 1 out of 10 on break points... make that 1 out of 11, missing with a backhand. Another chance for Federer but that is peaches and cream from Tomic, a dreamy sliced drop-shot that resembles a table-tennis serve. He tries to repeat the dose but this time Feds doesn't swallow it and here's a third break point... YOU HAVE TO SAY THAT'S MAGNIFICENT! You don't have to, but you probably ought to - Federer pulling out all sorts of tricks before finishing things off with a wristy, flicked backhand winner.
-
Federer 6-4 7-6 1-0 Tomic*
In the all-French battle over on Hisense, Simon and Monfils are going with serve in the first set. Double followed by an ace followed by a double by Federer before Tomic brings it back to deuce with a crackerjack forehand down the line. Tomic all over a Federer serve with a forehand winner and this is Tomic's first break point of the match... Federer with a fine second serve that rears up to head height and Tomic is unable to do anything with it. Federer holds...
-
*Federer 6-4 7-6 Tomic
Tomic into a 3-1 lead and he makes it 4-1 courtesy of another inside-out forehand winner. Tomic has got the eye of the tiger out there but Federer is going nowhere, jumping into a forehand winner for 4-2. Federer makes it 4-3 and snatches the mini-break back as Tomic eventually goes wide with a backhand on the 28th shot. Federer grazes the baseline with a forehand winner and just like that the Swiss has tipped the tie-breaker on its head... Federer wins it 7-5...
-
Federer 6-4 6-6 Tomic*
What a shot again from Federer, a stop-volley that seals the hold. Takes some hand-eye co-ordination to do that to an attempted Tomic pass, like trying to catch a lightning bolt.
-
*Federer 6-4 5-6 Tomic
Federer carves out a 0-30 lead on the Tomic serve before Tomic puts away a ballsy forehand winner, the ball landing a couple of inches inside the baseline. Federer wrong-footed by an inside-out forehand down the line before the four-time champion pulls out one of the shots of the tournament, a flicked half-volley on the run from behind the baseline, with bells on. Tomic saves another break point with a forehand throttled down the line before sending down an ace. And another, this lad's got big old conkers on him.
-
Federer 6-4 5-5 Tomic*
Raonic is through to the fourth round, the Canadian 13th seed has just put out 17th seed Kohlschreiber 7-6 6-3 6-4. Federer with another super-fly service game to love...I've got to switch puters, been chucked out by football, see you in a minute...
-
*Federer 6-4 4-5 Tomic
Tomic misses with an attempted forehand pass and Federer is 15-30 up. Two break points as Tomic's forehand malfunctions again but this time he rips a forehand down the line... second break point saved, this time courtesy of a well-directed backhand, and Tomic finishes off the next rally with a whipped forehand winner. Tomic slices into the net for deuce but makes light of a net cord on the next point, drilling a forehand winner down the line. Tomic misses with a sliced backhand that fades into the tramlines before shovelling a backhand wide - advantage Federer. Federer's ninth break point and he's only taken one of them. Tomic finds a biggun at the right time and nicks the advantage despite a tremendous volley on the lunge by Federer, the Australian putting away the forehand winner. Tomic holds, Federer, like a striker low on confidence, creating the chances but not able to put them away.
-
Federer 6-4 4-4 Tomic*
... Tomic can't make a dent in the Federer serve, he is but a fly on the Federer fuselage... scratch that, Federer goes long with a forehand for 40-15 before finding the net with another. Federer has won only 29% of points on second serve so far but he wins that one for the hold.
-
*Federer 6-4 3-4 Tomic
Federer gives Tomic the runaround before putting away the overhead and Tomic misses with a sliced backhand pass. Lucky net cord for Tomic, the ball top-edging over Federer's racquet, and Tomic makes it 30-30 with a solid first serve-forehand winner combo. Ace out wide, Federer plonks a forehand long, game Tomic...
-
Federer 6-4 3-3 Tomic*
One day, I'll receive a tweet about this tennis match. Or perhaps a text. And what a day that will be. Federer kicks off with an ace and what a shot that is, an angled, flicked backhand that would have had Dan Maskell purring. Federer seals the hold with an inside-out forehand, this match rattling along like a runaway freight train.
-
*Federer 6-4 2-3 Tomic
Federer finding himself outgunned by the power hitting of Tomic and the Aussie makes it 40-0 with a big first serve that Federer can only edge to third slip. Ace out wide, Tomic looking steely enough to keep his rival honest.
-
Federer 6-4 2-2 Tomic*
We've got an all-French dust-up on Hisense, 14th seed Gilles Simon against Gael Monfils, 1-1 in the first. That Federer service game lasted about a minute, wrapped up with a hooked forehand winner.
-
*Federer 6-4 1-2 Tomic
Sweet hands from Tomic, outfoxing Federer with a backhand volley down the line, and he makes it 30-15 with some earthy hitting from behind the baseline. Federer pounces on a short forehand from Tomic, piling into a forehand winner of his own, and that's a doozy of a winner on the return for a break point. Federer has a chance but misses with a makeable forehand and Tomic nicks the advantage with an ace down the middle. Cute as a button, Tomic sealing the hold with an angled drop-shot...
-
Federer 6-4 1-1 Tomic*
Federer putting so much top-spin on that backhand the ball almost turned in on itself, not a lot Tomic could do about that, and the Swiss wraps up another comfortable hold with an ace.
-
*Federer 6-4 0-1 Tomic
A double fault from Tomic on the first point of the second set, followed by an ace. Raonic takes the second set against Kohlschreiber 6-3, the Canadian homing in on a place in the fourth round...
-
GAME AND FIRST SET- Federer 6-4 Tomic*
On Show Court Three, 13th seed Raonic leads 17th seed Kohlschreiber 7-6 5-2. Back on Rod, it's Federer serving for the first set. Not a bad start, a 202kph ace down the middle, before Tomic gets the better of some baseline battery. A second double fault from Federer followed up with a rock-solid serve and volley. Federer digs up another clutch first serve... and another for the set...
-
*Federer 5-4 Tomic
Federer pulls a rabbit out of the hat, waiting on the ball before ripping an angled forehand winner that leaves Tomic rooted, and all of a sudden Federer is 30-15 up... Tomic puts away the off-forehand before plonking a backhand into the net to hand Federer set point... saves one before Tomic is confounded by a Federer forehand that pops off the baseline... Tomic saves a second break point courtesy of a lucky net cord, but Tomic errs again, sending down an ill-timed double... Federer misses with a knifed backhand before Tomic wrests the advantage behind a beefy first serve... Tomic holds, three set points saved...
-
Federer 5-3 Tomic*
... you join me on the Federer serve and what a time to join me, the Swiss sending down his first double fault. Federer with a rather hesitant approach and Tomic takes aim with a forehand, right into the body and Federer is unable to dig it out. Federer puts away a volley for advantage before Tomic pokes a forehand long, the Australian serving to stay in the set...
