BBC Sports Personality of the Year will take place on Sunday, 16 December, and be broadcast live on BBC One from ExCeL, London
Jessica-Jane Applegate, 16, Swimming - Applegate won gold at the Paralympic games in London after setting a new Paralympic record of 2:12:63 in the 200m Freestyle S14 final. She also achieved a fourth-place finish in the women’s 100m backstroke S14.
Olivia Breen, 16, Athletics - Breen was part of the women's T35/38 4x100m relay team who picked up Paralympic bronze in London this summer. She was also in the finals of her two individual Paralympic events; finishing 5th in the T38 100m and 8th in the T38 200m.
Josef Craig, 15, Swimming - Craig was crowned the youngest Paralympic gold medallist at London 2012, after smashing his own world record in the 400m freestyle S7 final with a time of 4:42.81. He also secured a fourth-place finish in the S7 100m Paralympic final.
Kyle Edmund, 17, Tennis - Edmund is the 2012 boys' US Open doubles champion. He also achieved great success in other Junior Grand Slams this year, reaching the quarter-finals of both the French and Australian Open.
Georgia Hall, 16, Golf - Hall is the number one amateur European female golfer and is ranked fourth in the world. She also won the British Girls' Championships, rounding off a fantastic 2012.
Quillan Isidore, 16, BMX - Isidore is a BMX world champion in his age category after an incredible display at the UCI BMX World Championships in Birmingham. This season Quillan has also won every one of the British BMX Series events in the junior men’s class.
Siobhan-Marie O'Connor, 17, Swimming - O'Connor was the youngest swimmer competing for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympic Games. She was part of the women's 4x100m medley relay team who went on to make the final.
Saskia Sills, 16, Windsurfing - Sills is a multiple youth world champion in sailing, as well as picking up European and national titles in 2012.
Rebecca Tunney, 16, Gymnastics. Tunney was the youngest member to represent Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics. She is also British all-round gymnastics champion and at the same competition finished second in the uneven bars, close behind Beth Tweddle.
Kimberley Woods, 17, Canoe Slalom - Woods is a junior world champion in the K1W team event of canoe slalom, as well as a European gold medallist in the C1 women's event.
