BBC announces Young Sports Personality award top 10

2011 BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year nominees

The cream of young British sports people have been named in a shortlist of 10 contenders for this year's BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award.

Liam Broady, Sally Brown, Tom Daley, Lucy Garner, Jack Laugher, Pat McCormack, Laura Robson, Eleanor Simmonds, Lauren Taylor and Anthony Watson have all made the shortlist and one of them will be crowned 2011 BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year, at the awards show on 22 December.

Sally Brown - Athletics
Tom Daley - Diving
Lucy Garner - Cycling
Jack Laugher - Diving
Pat McCormack - Boxing
Laura Robson - Tennis
Eleanor Simmonds - Swimming
Lauren Taylor - Golf
Anthony Watson - Rugby Union

The accolade, which is awarded by the BBC in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust, is decided by a panel chaired by BBC Sport presenter John Inverdale.

The panel also included BBC Sport presenters Jake Humphrey, Ore Oduba, Sonali Shah and previous Young Sports Personality of the Year winner Amy Spencer.

Together, they worked through a huge list of contenders to pick the top 10. All of the young hopefuls have either achieved international success at junior level, or have performed supremely well for their age at senior level.

Past winners of the Young Sports Personality trophy include Tom Daley, Wayne Rooney, Andy Murray and Eleanor Simmonds.
