As it happened

  1. 1915:

A warm welcome to part two of our live text coverage of the Scottish Premier League action on Boxing Day. Dundee take on Celtic in 15 minutes' time and I'll be giving you a blow-by-blow account of the action from Dens Park.

  2. 1917:

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has been talking to BBC Radio Scotland reporter Jim Spence: "There are no easy games in football. If you are not up to the challenge you will get stung. We are starting to get a few more of our threatening eliminators back into the team."

  3. 1920:

DUNDEE: Douglas, Irvine, Lockwood, Benedictus, Gallagher, McAlister, O'Donnell, McBride, Conroy, John Baird, Nish.

CELTIC: Forster, Ambrose, Wilson, Mulgrew, Izaguirre, Wanyama, Brown, Kayal, Hooper, Samaras, Watt.

  4. 1922:

Please don't hesitate to get in touch to air your views this evening. You can text 80295 or use the hashtag #bbcsportsound on Twitter.

  5. 1924:

Dundee have Alex Baird, McGregor, Easton, Boyle, Stewart and Reid on the subs bench, while Zaluska, Miku, Nouioui, McCourt, Lustig, Rogne and Forrest begin in the dugout for Celtic.

  6. 1928:

Dundee are in danger of losing touch with 11th placed Ross County, who clinched a 1-0 win at Hibernian earlier today. The Dark Blues are nine points behind Derek Adams' side but they do have two games in hand to try to claw themselves away from the bottom spot.

  7. 1929:

Dundee, in their usual dark blue strips, make their way on to the pitch, with white-shirted Celtic.

  8. 1931:

Iain Brines is the referee this evening. Dundee are about to kick off the match. Here we go!

  9. 1933:

Celtic ping the ball about at pace in the first exchanges on what looks like a very good surface at Dens.

  10. 1935:

Efe Ambrose knocks the ball too far ahead of himself as he tries to make progress down the right and Dundee have the throw-in.

  11. 1936:

Classy touches from Victor Wanyama in the Celtic midfield, dinking the ball over an opponent's head and threading a pass through a ruck of players. Does he ever look flustered?!

  12. 1938:

BBC Radio Scotland commentator Rob Maclean: "Every minute that passes without Celtic inflicting some damage will give Dundee that bit more confidence."

  13. 1940:

Dundee skipper Stephen O'Donnell lifts a left-foot shot over the bar with eight minutes on the clock. O'Donnell is making his first appearance since August after recovering from a hamstring injury but fellow midfielder Nicky Riley is out through injury. Ryan Conroy also comes into the Dundee midfield with Iain Davidson suspended.

  14. 1945:

Tony Watt races in at the back post to meet Emilio Izaguirre's cross from the left and his side-footed effort is knocked out for a corner by Dundee keeper Rab Douglas.

  15. 1945:

Charlie Mulgrew's in-swinging corner is met by the thigh of Efe Ambrose and the ball crashes off the Dundee crossbar. Ambrose looked the keenest player to get to the ball.

  16. 1947:

Dundee 0-1 Celtic (Samaras) A series of Charlie Mulgrew corner kicks eventually produces a goal. Tony Watt connects with Mulgrew's third in-swinger at the back post, keeper Rab Douglas parries the ball out towards the penalty spot and Georgios Samaras is on to it in a flash to send an overhead kick into the net from 10 yards. It's a superb finish by the Greek.

  17. 1954:

Beram Kayal is sent running by Georgios Samaras at the halfway line and he has three dark blue jerseys in his wake as he releases the ball to the scorer on the left-hand side of the box. Samaras curls a right-foot shot towards the back post and Rab Douglas dives to his left to concede yet another corner.

  18. 1957:

This is already looking like a bit of a procession towards big Rab Douglas in the home goal. Dundee desperately need to hold on to the ball in midfield and up front but that is proving difficult with Celtic's Efe Ambrose and Victor Wanyama in commanding form.

  19. 1958:

Charlie Mulgrew lines up a free-kick from 25 yards...

  20. 2001:

Georgios Samaras extends his neck muscles to meet Mulgrew's ball 12 yards from goal but can only connect with a few strands of flailing hair. Rab Douglas parries the ball to safety and the linesman calls for offside in any case against Samaras.

  21. 2003:

Dundee win a corner but Ryan Corner's delivery cannot match that of Charlie Mulgrew at the other end. He pings it to the back post giving striker Colin Nish too much to do to divert it at goal.

  22. 2006:

Beram Kayal tries to weave his way through the Dundee midfield but is brushed off the ball too easily. There are 10 minutes left of the first half.

  23. 2009:

Dundee's Kyle Benedictus concedes possession under pressure from Beram Kayal, Scott Brown picks up the play and slides a pass through to Gary Hooper who races between two defenders and just fails to connect. How many times has Scott Brown fed his strikers with visionary passes this season?

  24. 2011:

BBC Radio Scotland football pundit Billy Dodds: "Whatever formation, you are not going to get much of the ball against Celtic. It is not happening for Dundee so far."

  25. 2013:

At last Dundee make an attacking move on Celtic down the right. However, Kyle Benedictus makes a hash of the cross into the box and Celtic have a goal kick.

  26. 2017:

Efe Ambrose makes a surge from midfield and hits a 25-yard shot that Dundee goalie Rab Douglas saves comfortably.

  27. 2018:

    Dundee 0-1 Celtic

  28. 2021:

My colleague Brian McLauchlin always has his ear to the ground. He informs me that a number of clubs from the Far East are showing an interest in Hearts defender Ryan McGowan. The Australian international is out of contract at the end of the season and the Tynecastle club are expected to cash in on the player during the January transfer window. There are also interested parties in England who are keeping a close eye on developments but no offers have yet been made.

  29. 2029:

TV replays show that Celtic defender Kelvin Wilson hit John Baird with an elbow as the pair chased for a ball. What's not clear is whether it was intentional. That might be one for the Scottish Football Association's compliance officer Vincent Lunny to consider.

  30. 2029:

board67com: "Wilson has caught him but the guy is about half Kelvin's height so unlikely to have been intentional #bbcsportsound"

  31. 2032:

Jonny in Northern Ireland: "This Dundee team will struggle to meet a respectable points total in the SPL this season. They can't even get out of their own half in that first half."

  32. 2034:

Mikael Lustig comes on for Charlie Mulgrew. No disrespect to Mr Lustig, but that will surely come as a bit of welcome news to Dundee.

  33. 2037:

Two minutes gone in the second half. What can Dundee do to turn the tide? There are 9,276 fans inside Dens Park to watch this match.

  34. 2038:

Well, some progress for Dundee, I guess, as Jim McAlister's shot is diverted wide by Victor Wanyama for a corner.

  35. 2039:

And then there's more for Dundee! Fraser Forster makes a terrific, instinctive save from big Colin Nish, who met Ryan Conroy's cross from the left and headed powerfully at goal from six yards only to be thwarted by the English goalie.

  36. 2043:

Ryan Conroy's free-kick from the right is headed clear by the Celtic defence as far as Kevin McBride who sends the ball back towards Fraser Forster's goal with a powerful shot. That was only a few feet wide.

  37. 2045:

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly a team can build momentum. Having been run into the ground in the first half, Dundee are beginning to press Celtic back and could have been level had Emilio Izaguirre not managed to send John Baird's shot from 18 yards out for a corner.

  38. 2045:

Nico: "If only retailers were as gratuitous on boxing day as the Dundee defence, the shops would be heaving!"

  39. 2048:

Mikael Lustig shows a lovely bit of footwork on the right side of the pitch, dinking the ball through Ryan Conroy's legs before slipping a perfect pass to Georgios Samaras, who sets off on a marauding run through the Dundee half. A slack pass allows Dundee to regroup.

  40. 2049:

But oh-by-jimmeny, Lustig then makes a dog's dinner of a cross from the right wing, hoofing the ball into the Dundee fans behind Rab Douglas's goal.

  41. 2050:

Winger James Forrest is introduced to the match at the expense of midfielder Beram Kayal.

  42. 2055:

Rab Douglas makes a point-blank save from his team-mate Kyle Benedictus, who diverted Mikael Lustig's cross towards his own goal under pressure from Celtic striker Gary Hooper.

  43. 2057:

Dundee defender Gary Irvine blasts a 25-yard shot over the bar with four team-mates screaming for the ball in the Celtic box. That was a real waste after a nice move by the home team right up the park from their 18-yard line.

  44. 2059:

Kyle Benedictus and Gary Hooper are booked by referee Iain Brines for a bit of niggle.

  45. 2059:

Dundee 0-2 Celtic (Hooper) What a finish by English striker Gary Hooper to give Celtic a two-goal cushion. Mikael Lustig knocks the ball forward down the inside-right channel and Hooper controls the ball in his stride with his first touch then lifts the ball over Rab Douglas with his second.

  46. 2103:

Dundee show their battling qualities as Colin Nish forces Fraser Forster to make a finger-tip save to prevent the Dundee striker's looping header from sneaking under the crossbar.

  47. 2105:

But Celtic now look like it is they who are more likely to score, prompted by James Forrest and Scott Brown.

  48. 2108:

Paddy McCourt takes to the field, with Celtic striker Tony Watt going in the opposite direction.

  49. 2109:

Celtic captain Scott Brown skips over a challenge and slips a pass across to Gary Hooper, who skews his shot wide of the target. His balance was way off there.

  50. 2109:

Ten minutes left at Dens Park.

  51. 2111:

A free-kick by Celtic sub Paddy McCourt is headed high and wide by Georgios Samaras.

  52. 2112:

Dundee manager Barry Smith makes a change with six minutes remaining - Martin Boyle comes on to replace skipper Stephen O'Donnell.

  53. 2115:

If Celtic leave Dens Park with three points they will be seven points ahead of Inverness and Motherwell, their nearest challengers, with a game in hand. Dundee will remain at the foot of the table, nine points adrift of Ross County.

  54. 2118:

Dundee have a late corner. Ryan Conroy lofts it into the box where Fraser Forster fumbles its collection but his team-mate Mikael Lustig bangs it clear.

  55. 2119:

Rab Douglas rolls back the years to get down smartly to his right to save Celtic striker Gary Hooper's low shot.

  56. 2120:

And the former Celtic keeper is at full stretch to tip clear a James Forrest's cross from the bye-line.

  57. 2121:

    Dundee 0-2 Celtic

  58. 2128:

In the end, Celtic deserved their league win over Dundee at Dens Park but for a 20-minute period in the second half they were under the cosh. Gary Hooper's lob is well worth looking out for when we publish the highlights on the BBC Sport website tomorrow. It was a great goal.

  59. 2129:

Before the highlights, though, we'll have reaction to tonight's match on the website. Thanks very much for logging on this evening. Enjoy what's left of Boxing Day. All the best.
