Alex Thomson sails into Vendee Globe race history

British sailor Alex Thomson talks to BBC Breakfast about his "amazing" third-place finish in the Vendee Globe race.

The 38-year-old finished the 24,000-mile, three-month solo race behind Frenchmen Francois Gabart, who came first and Armel Le Cleac'h in second.

Thomson, who was born in Bangor in North Wales, is only the third Briton to claim a top-three finish in the Vendee after Ellen MacArthur was second in 2001 and Mike Golding finished third in 2004.

He also becomes the fastest Briton ever to sail around the world in a monohull boat, beating the previous record by nearly eight days.
