Sale Sharks: Phil Mackenzie, Andy Forsyth & Dan Baines sign

Sale Sharks have taken their tally of summer signings to seven after announcing the arrivals of Phil Mackenzie, Andy Forsyth and Dan Baines.

Canada international winger Mackenzie, 26, will join from relegated London Welsh at the end of the season.

Centre Forsyth, 22, struggled to break through at Leicester, while hooker Baines, 26, has been playing in the Championship with Rotherham.

Sale host Wasps in their final fixture of the season on Saturday.

The Sharks are currently second from bottom but could rise to as high as ninth if they win and other results go their way on the final day.

A change in transfer policy?

"Sale have made a real shift in transfer policy this summer, which was needed after spending the majority of the season struggling at the bottom of the Premiership.

"High-profile signings such as Danny Cipriani, Richie Gray and Eifion Lewis-Roberts were last year's main arrivals, but Sale failed to find their groove until Steve Diamond's return to the role of director of rugby in January.

"These signings show recruitment for next season has focused more on seasoned, hard-working professionals or upcoming youngsters looking to make their way in the game."

On the new signings, director of rugby Steve Diamond told the club website:  "Phil has played really well for London Welsh all season long. He's a real hard working lad and I think he will fit in really well here next season.

"Andy is a very talented young player. He's played for Leicester numerous times and is very highly rated, but hasn't had as many opportunities in the first team as he would like and he wants to impress. We're delighted that he is joining us.

"In terms of Dan, I believe he has been the best hooker playing in the Championship this season. He's got big passion, is very ambitious and wants to play in the Premiership. He's still a young lad and this is a big opportunity for him."

Mackenzie is the third London Welsh player to agree a summer transfer to the Salford City Stadium.

Sale have also signed Tom Arscott and Kirill Kulemin from the Exiles, while Michael Paterson from Cardiff Blues and Jersey's Charlie Walker-Blair will also link up with the Sharks ahead of the 2013-14 season.

There will also be several high-profile departures in the summer, with Andy Powell, Richie Gray, Kearnan Myall and Richie Vernon among those leaving.
