Warren Gatland still helping Wales, says Shaun Edwards

- Venue: Millennium Stadium, Cardiff
- Date: Friday, 16 November
- Kick-off: 19:30 GMT

Defence coach Shaun Edwards says Wales did not miss Warren Gatland in their build-up to their 26-12 defeat by Argentina because "he'd been there throughout the preparations".
Gatland's main role this season is as 2013 British and Irish Lions coach to Australia.
Saturday's defeat by the Pumas prompted former Wales skipper Paul Thorburn to criticise interim coach Robert Howley.
Edwards added: "We didn't miss him [Gatland] at the weekend."
Gatland was at Ireland's defeat by South Africa on Saturday, then took in New Zealand's win over Scotland at Murrayfield on Sunday.
Samoa win to warn Wales
Former Wales and Lions scrum-half Howley takes charge for sixth successive game on Friday when Wales host Samoa in Cardiff.
A Lions spokesperson says Gatland's only fixuture commitment in the next round of autumn Tests will be at England v Australia on Saturday.
On Friday, Wales face Samoa with Edwards revealing Howley and Gatland have been in close contact during Wales's autumn series.
"Warren's been fully part of the preparations, really, in that, as regards selection, he spoke to Rob, he speaks to Rob every day," said Edwards.
"And I think any team… I've come out and said this before, Gats is probably the best coach in the world so we're pretty lucky in Wales to have him and did we miss him at the weekend?
"Really the fact that he'd been there throughout the preparations, I'd have to say no, we didn't miss him at the weekend.
Wales' autumn Test schedule
10 Nov: lost 12-26 v Argentina, Millennium Stadium
16 Nov: v Samoa, Millennium Stadium, 1930
24 Nov: v New Zealand, Millennium Stadium, 1715
1 Dec: v Australia, Millennium Stadium, 1430
"But would we miss Warren Gatland if he left Wales?
"Of course we would, because in my opinion he's one of the premier coaches in the whole rugby world."
Howley's stint as caretaker coach began earlier than planned after Gatland suffered a double-heel break in a domestic accident in May.
The Welshman's temporary term began with victory against the Barbarians in June, then three defeats against Australia down under and Saturday's loss to the Pumas.
A fifth successive loss on Friday against Samoa would be Wales' worst run since 2010, when Gatland was in total charge.
The New Zealander will return to guide Wales into their 24 November encounter with the All Blacks and the 1 December meeting with the Wallabies.
After that, Howley will reclaim the reins for Wales's Six Nations and Grand Slam defence.

It was actually a WC 1/2 final though the stark reality is that we didn't beat a SH team along the way and got there beating an Ireland team that is even managing to out perform us in underperforming.
The 6N included a couple of results (Ire \ Eng) that could have gone either way but results have shown that the NH are a long way behind the SH. Losing to Argentina shouldn't be a surprise ...

Welcome to Wales' new found Golden Era - Three 6N Grandslams since 2005, and a 2011 World Cup 1/4 final place.
Now take off your Rose Tinted glasses and we are always 1 game away from Classic Wales, and I obviously don't mean that in a 70's kind of way.
In between all the plaudits of Wales Winning 6N and placing well in the World Cup, Wales' win / lose ratio is poor. We don't consistently win.

Things will improve. Wales will beat Samoa. The Edwards-Howley power struggle confused the players on Saturday and led them to a defence dominated gameplan with no attack minded tactics. Howley needs to step up and tell his defence coach who's boss and get his side firing in the tries with a bit of guile and thought. Not Edwards' strong point.
How's that for a conspiracy thread?

Not sure that Matthew Morgan is quite ready yet, but he's certainly one for the future. It's about time Hooky was given his chance, especially as he's now playing 10 regularly for his club.
If you do remember that player's name, don't say it! Any mention of "He who must not be named" will bring the wrath of his many haters down on your head. I hope he does regain his form and his place.

If we only strayed into the Pumas' half twice during the whole match, how did we score 4 penalties? Criticism is fine (and justified) but use facts, not figures plucked out of the air. Talking of figures, although we wasted most of it, the stats show that both possession and territory came out at 48/52.
Ever hopeful for Friday - got tickets and Pudsey hat. Good luck boys. Do us proud.
