Danny Tickle: Widnes Vikings to continue progression in 2014

Danny Tickle is expecting further improvements from Widnes as he prepares for his first season with the Vikings.

Widnes are set for their third year back in Super League, having finished 14th and 10th since their return.

Tickle, 30, agreed to sign a three-year contract with Widnes in June and left Hull FC at the end of the 2013 season.

"They're only going to get better, and looking at performances last season, they're not far off," the second-row forward told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"I was really impressed when I spoke to [head coach] Denis Betts and [owner] Steve O'Connor, explaining what they're expecting in the coming seasons."

Former England international Tickle, who appeared in last season's Challenge Cup final for Hull, continued: "That's one of the stand-out things that I was impressed with.

"There's inconsistency at times but there were quite a few games last year that they could have won. Those tight games, if they could have scored one or two more tries, they could have been finishing a bit higher in the league."
