Leeds Rhinos forward Mitch Achurch will be out for up to eight weeks after dislocating his kneecap in last week's
19-18 defeat at Warrington.
It was feared the 24-year-old, who has played 20 times since joining from NRL side Penrith, would miss the rest of his debut Super League season.
But a specialist decided Achurch does not require surgery on the injury.
"The specialist is happy to manage Mitch's injury conservatively at this stage," said Rhinos physio Andy Barker.
Leeds are also monitoring a leg injury to Brad Singleton, suffered in the same match, ahead of next week's game against Wakefield.
