St Helens half-back Jonny Lomax signs new four-year deal

St Helens half-back Jonny Lomax has signed a new four-year-deal at Langtree Park, following a successful 2011 Super League season.

The 21-year-old was named Super League Young Player of the Year and was a key member of the Saints side that reached the Super League Grand Final  .

He made 29 appearances and scored nine tries for the club last term.

"I'm more than happy to be signing a long-term deal with my home-town club," the Orrell St James product said.

"Although there were two years left on my existing deal, I was keen to extend it.

"There's a real excitement in the team and in the town at the moment with our new stadium about to open and we can't wait to be playing in it."

He's already proven himself to be of international calibre and will grace the England team and St Helens for many years to come

Injury cost Lomax a place in the England squad for the autumn Four Nations series  , denying him a debut at senior international level.

Along with Jamie Foster, Lee Gaskell and Tom Makinson, Lomax is one of a number of Saints academy products pushing for recognition in the current squad.

"Jonny is a great young talent and a pleasure to coach," head coach Royce Simmons said.

"He's already proven himself to be of international calibre and will grace the England team and St Helens for many years to come.

"He's one of a number of great young players that have come through the Saints Academy and have already proven themselves capable of performing at the highest level."
