Usain Bolt beaten by Yohan Blake in 200m at Olympic trials
Usain Bolt was beaten by Yohan Blake in the 200m final at the Jamaican Olympic trials - the world record holder's second loss to his rival in 48 hours.
Blake stunned Bolt in Friday's 100m final and repeated the feat over the longer distance, finishing in 19.80 seconds, 0.03secs ahead.
Analysis
OK, this is getting serious for Bolt. Something is not right and he hasn't got long to fix it.
Speculation and rumour after the race was rife. Had Bolt been injured in his car accident just weeks ago and he was keeping any problem quiet? Had he been travelling too much this season? Maybe his focus had gone after the 100m defeat in Kingston?
One thing that is certain is that Yohan Blake is the real deal. To chase Bolt down in the 200m is unheard of. He did it.
After the race, I asked whether Bolt felt he has something to prove at London 2012 now. "Definitely," he said.
World 100m champion Blake burst past his training partner on the straight for the victory.
"I'll have to figure out what I did wrong and work on it," said Bolt.
The reigning 100m and 200m Olympic champion, who also won 4x100m gold in Beijing, said he was "weak" and must "put in the work" ahead of London 2012.
"I'm the Olympic champion, I have to show the world that I'm the best - so I expect to come back," he said.
"Three more weeks should be enough to get myself back into shape."
Blake, 22, had been quicker in Saturday's 200m semi-finals, running 19.93secs, while Bolt, 25, won his heat in 20.26secs.
They are the fastest two men of all time over the distance and their battles are set to be one of the highlights of the London Games.
"I can never be discouraged," said Bolt, who holds the world record for both the 100m (9.58secs) and 200m (19.19secs). "I'm never worried until my coach gets worried. My coach isn't worried, so I'm OK."
Usain Bolt wins three gold medals at the Beijing 2008 Olympics
His coach, Glen Mills, said he was confident Bolt would be at his peak again in time for the Olympics, which begin later this month.
"Usain has the experience, the ability, he has been there already," said Mills. "He might be a little off at the moment, but I'm sure when the time of delivery comes around, he'll be on top of his game."
Blake had only words of thanks for Bolt.
"He always gives me a lot of encouragement and tells me to keep coming to this race," said Blake.
"A lot of people gave me encouragement, said 'Yohan Blake, you can do it'. I just wanted to keep performing and keep going."
In the women's 200m, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won in a personal best of 22.10secs to add to her earlier success in the 100m.
She will be joined in the squad for London by Sherone Simpson and two-time defending Olympic champion Veronica Campbell-Brown.

Passion for the sprints in Jamaica is a powerful ingredient. But why do British sprinters showing world-level promise as juniors seem to bulk up awkwardly, or simply get eclipsed on the senior stage? Is it the coaching at fault? Is our coaching too linear in approach? Whatever the reason, we are far from being able to split hairs between phenomenal performances like those of Bolt and Blake.

If Bolt can respond to this adversity I hate to think how fast he could go if the weather allows it in London. He's still no.1 I think, but fair play to Blake, he'll push him all the way, just like Tyson Gay pushed Bolt to the WRs in the past.

I thought after Johan Blake ran that amazing 200m last year (19.26?) in diamond league he was a real threat to Bolt-looked much more comfortable than Bolt's 200m WR- albeit Bolt had ran a whole load of races by time he ran the 19.19.I still fancy Bolt for 100m in Olympics (Blake second and Gay third) but Blake for the 200m.
great that the sport has depth - going to be fascinating viewing!

Best thing that could've happened to Bolt, he was getting complacent. Blake has been running him close for a couple of years now and Bolt finally has a point to prove. 9.4 is a bridge too far for both of them for the 100 but if anyone can do it then its Bolt, Blake will only push him on. I can see the 100 record going but 19.19 will take some doing

So much negativity, why? At the end of the day whoever wins will be a Jamaican. You haters should be more concern about the progress of the athletes from your countries. For those persons who like to link the Jamaican athletes to drugs, are you also saying that the athletes that are good at sports that Jamaicans are not good at are on drugs. Are the footballers, tennis players etc. on drugs.
