Judoka Colin Oates had no doubts over Olympic selection

Norfolk judoka Colin Oates insists he had no doubts over whether he would be in the GB team for the London Olympics.

The British number one in the -66kg class won a bronze medal at the European Cup just prior to the squad announcement on Tuesday.

"I had a feeling from the start of the year I was in with a shout."

"My position was secured when we were told unofficially, and we just had to wait until the official confirmation to tell anyone," he told BBC Norfolk.

The 29-year-old suffered a shoulder injury earlier this year, but thankfully for Oates, it was not as serious as first thought.

"You could say my [selection] was touch and go at one point as at the Europeans I cracked my shoulder," he added.

"But it turns out it was probably the best injury I could have got on the shoulder because any other style like a tendon or ligament would have put me in jeopardy."
