London 2012: Craig Bellamy set to feature for Team GB
Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy says he has been included in the Team GB squad for the Olympics.
Coach Stuart Pearce is allowed to name three players over the age of 23 in his 18-man squad - and Wales international Bellamy, 32, has been widely quoted claiming he has been included.
"I am in the Olympic squad but I was supposed to keep it quiet," he said.
"It's a different challenge. I had a difficult season with Liverpool but the Olympics is a one-off."
Pearce is expected to name his squad for the games later in June.
Former England captain David Beckham, 37, has made no secret of his desire to be included and Manchester United will allow former Wales skipper Ryan Giggs, 38, to feature.
England international Joe Cole, Scotland striker Steven Fletcher and Northern Ireland midfielder Chris Brunt have also been touted as potential over-age players.
Team GB's first fixture is against Senegal at Old Trafford on 26 July.

@215 All very well but irrelevant to your first post. You said 'but your country is on an island called Britain'. It isn't on the island of Great Britain, Great Britain is only one of the islands that makes up the country of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The country is not, was not and never has been called Britain or Great Britain. Bit of a Cornish separatist are we?

@215.
Nope, the island of Britain has Wales, Kernow, Scotland and England on it, just as the island that Haiti & The Dominican Republic are on is called Hispaniola - the name of the island doesn't affect nationality.
The British isles includes the non-UK (and non-EU) islands of Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man - plus the non-U.K Republic of Ireland.

This is pretty much an irrelevance to the mens game. As much I like and support football, I would rather watch track and field, swimming etc. The FA would be better served putting more emphasis on the womens game and womens GB football team as success here would have more impact.

@211 The UK (not Britain ,or to give it its proper name Great Britain, as that is just one of the islands that makes up the 'country' you are a part of) is part of the continent Europe. Europe has been called that for thousands of years, so maybe using your logic we should just have a single European team.

Will be a interesting to see how uk football team performs one thing is for sure a uk team circa 1970 with Best , Law , Baxter etc added to the England world cup winning side would have swated aside the 1970 Brazil team. Don't think it will catch on though culturally for football cricket purposes feel English . Feel British for proper Olympic sports athletics cycling . 1 cultural 2. political
