Samantha Murray and Joe Evans stripped of silver after penalty

Great Britain's Samantha Murray and Joe Evans missed out on a silver medal in the mixed team relay at the Modern Pentathlon World Championships after incurring a 10-second penalty.

The pair finished second only to be penalised on a kit protocol issue which relegated them to fourth.

An appeal was rejected and Ukraine were handed bronze behind Latvia and the gold medallists France.

The women's team won gold while Nick Woodbridge won an individual silver.

Murray, who won team gold on Friday but missed out on an individual medal, was left angry and frustrated by events in Taiwan.

"An abysmal display of competition organisation, management, target failure, and animal welfare here at #pentworldchamps. Disgusted," she said on Twitter.

It was unclear the exact reasons for the Olympic silver medallist's frustration but the decision of the International Federation to strip the pair of the medal also upset Team GB.

"They competed well today and earned second place in the field of play, so it was disappointing to see them in fourth," said Jan Bartu, Pentathlon GB performance director.

"There are two more relays coming up and it would be great to bring home another medal."
