AP McCoy stays in hospital after heavy fall at Cheltenham

Champion jump jockey AP McCoy will remain in Gloucestershire Royal Hospital overnight on Thursday after a heavy fall at Cheltenham.

McCoy fell from Quantitativeeasing in the three-mile Barbury International Horse Trials Handicap Hurdle.

The 38-year-old was given oxygen as he left the track on a stretcher after treatment for a chest injury.

Although he will stay in hospital overnight for 'routine observation', he is expected to be released on Friday.

McCoy, who will be crowned champion jockey for the 18th time when the season ends a week on Saturday, was conscious and able to move all his limbs when he left the racecourse.

He hopes to return to the saddle at Ireland's prestigious Punchestown Festival on Tuesday.
