The first of the Glastonbury revellers arrive a week early and a tad overdressed. There's no U2 or Coldplay at Royal Ascot, but Kinky Afro, named after the Happy Mondays classic, goes in the Buckingham Palace Stakes
Glasto veteran Dame Shirley Bassey is used to the inclement conditions but abandons her diamond encrusted wellies in favour of two giant red flowers. Not sure about the choice of tifter, but you can't argue with a lady who sang the theme to Goldfinger
A bit of mud and rain doesn't dissuade this hardy bunch from setting up the picnic table behind their fine classic motor, which no doubt has a sticker in the back window saying 'My other car's a Porsche'
"Put 'em up old chap, this is a stick-up" - the Bonnie and Clyde of the 21st century make good their escape on an Ascot escalator, armed with an umbrella and some frightfully good manners
This Italian couple are clearly taking the Pisa with a towering hat to show off their home city's famous landmark. They might just take a fancy to Balducci in the Wolverton Handicap
The Duke of Edinburgh doffs his hat to the crowds as his good lady wife flashes a winning smile, resplendent in lemon with twinset and pearls
Not renowned to being the best judge of hats, Princess Eugenie was probably listening to Prince's 80s hit, Let's Go Crazy when she chose to wear this sub-woofer style headpiece
Top hats, tails and fish and chips - these gents couldn't be any more English if they had 'Made in England' tattooed on their respective foreheads
The first race of the day sees Jamie Spencer (centre) ride Samitar to a win in the Albany Stakes, ahead of Inetrobil and Illaunglass
Now here we have a headpiece that King Henry VIII would have been proud of donning, but the royalties went to Nathanial ridden by William Buick who is victorious in the King Edward VII Stakes
Gerald Mosse came up with all the right tunes in the feature race of the day, the Coronation Stakes as he rode 8-1 shot Immortal Verse to victory
It's a good day for jockey William Buick; he and trainer John Gosden claim two winners on Friday, the most spectacular coming when Beachfire surges through the field to win the Wolferton Handicap
