Stage 07

A second successive start from a Normandy spa town and, after a week, there will be riders severely in need of something to sooth their aching muscles.

The strongest will leave any stragglers behind on a stage that changes direction, and could see crosswinds and headwinds at different stages.

That might set the scene for one of the northern European strongmen to have a go, but a sprint finish is still more likely.

Previously: Scene of a team time trial in the 1990s, Avranches hosted MG-GB's triumph in 1993.

Don't miss: Like much of northern France, the shadow of war looms large, in this case an historic event from World War II.

It was at Avranches that Allied tanks broke through and began to liberate the entire country of France from Nazi occupation.

Food and drink: The finish town is the closest to the famous Mont St Michel abbey, so make the most of your time by the seaside and sample some seafood.
