Queen Mother Chase

Queen Mother Chase
Wed 13 March, 1435 GMT

The main race on the middle day is over fences for the Queen Mother Champion Chase run over the minimum two-mile trip.

The first five jumps of the dozen are fine, then a section going away from the stands poses problems with a water jump and two fences with open ditches immediately in front of them coming close together.

There is one plain fence, but it is the last of the open ditches that often catches them out, as they require more effort to clear.

They then swing downhill with two fences on the decline.

The world has turned upside down here quite often for those hoping to lift the cup from the Queen Mother.

This race often gives us one of the finest spectacles of the meeting, with the final hill the decider.
