Peter Alliss' Course Guide

« Back Next »
This is one of the most interesting holes for me. It never used to be that long - Tiger Woods could probably have driven it with a breath of wind behind him - so they have added another 45 yards to it.

It's a narrowish fairway, through the trees and you wonder what the policy should be here. It used to be whether to take a four iron off the tee and leave yourself an eight iron or blast away with a driver and virtually get to the front of the green. Not so now.

Another problem, once again, is that the green is raised, it's very narrow, with big bunkers in the front, and the narrowness makes it very difficult to get the ball the right distance.

If you wander off right and left you can have a putt with a huge slope on it - the ability to two putt is crucial at Augusta.
