Peter Alliss' Course Guide

« Back Next »
The 5th is one of the most underrated holes on the course and seldom seen in any depth. I don't think I've ever seen them drive off from it on television.

It's a slight dogleg from right to left, with sort of a blind drive. This has a raised green with deep bunkers around it.

When the wind is blowing it can be a considerable iron shot to get there in two and it's cost many a player a dropped stroke early in the rounds. This can be a crucial little corner.

In their own way, four, five and six, and indeed seven, are a bit of a front nine 'Amen Corner' because they are funny, peculiar holes.
