Mopti is often called the 'Venice of Mali'.
Its location on the Niger River means that during the rainy season it is completely surrounded by water. The city is a major tourist destination with its scenic harbour full of boats heading to Timbuktu. The newly-built stadium is in the old neighbourhood of Taikiri, close to the city's Grand Mosque. |
