Arjuna Ranatunga and Aravinda de Silva

Sri Lankan stars Ranatunga and De Silva have been cleared of match-fixing allegations by the country's anti-corruption investigator.

The pair were accused by Indian bookmaker MK Gupta of helping to fix matches. Both rejected the allegations.

Gupta claimed that Sri Lanka's World Cup-winning skipper Ranatunga and his deputy De Silva helped him fix an Indian victory in the Lucknow Test in 1994.

But lawyer Desmond Fernando exonerated the pair from any involvement after Gupta refused to meet with the investigator.

He said the evidence of Gupta was inadequate and untested and as a result could not be relied upon.
