On 29 January, Nevada officials decide not to relicence Tyson, thereby quashing any chance of the fight taking place in Las Vegas.
After claiming Tyson bit him in the leg – something that the former champion would later admit to – Lewis seems slightly hesitant about arranging the fight anywhere else.
Tyson applies for a licence at any number of states, with Washington and Michigan seeming favourites to host the bout.
Finally, Memphis, a state with no real history in terms of boxing, is selected as the location, the date being 8 June. Tyson, almost expectedly, announces: "My main objective is to be professional but to kill him.”
